Decisions of Fate
East Melbourne Synagogue will be running a series of foundational Jewish courses over the next twelve months to advance serious Jewish learning at our shul.
The first of these, Decisions of Fate, a new Jewish philosophy and medical-ethics course from the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute, begins on November 1 and takes place over four Sundays. It focuses on ethics, exploring the Jewish philosophy that underpins medical ethics and its practical application to real-life dilemmas: experimental treatments and acceptable risk, end-of-life care, beginning-of-life dilemmas, and dignity after death. Drawing on sources from the Talmud to contemporary halachic authorities, and opening each session with a real case study, the course offers ethical and philosophical principles as well as clear and compassionate guidance for difficult decisions many of us may one day face.
Four Sundays — 1, 8, 15 & 22 November · 3:00pm
