New Hebrew Torah Study Course with David Solomon
2025 – Semester 1
Learn Hebrew while gaining insight into the key Jewish texts (Tanach, Mishnah, Midrash)
with acclaimed scholar Professor David Solomon.
We are offering 2 Streams!
Intermediate/Basic stream: The fundamentals of reading a Torah text – The class will parse the language and grammar of classical Torah texts, phrases and sentences as well as study insights and commentary on the text. Class is taught in English. All materials will be provided. A wonderful opportunity to learn the fundamentals of how to study Torah texts in Hebrew.
Prerequisite: Hebrew reading ability and basic understanding of key Hebrew grammar principles and a vocabulary of 100+ Hebrew words.
Advanced stream – Hebrew in Hebrew. A slightly more advanced course that will parse the text more thoroughly and delve into some classical commentaries. This class will be held in Hebrew. You need to be able to understand a basic Hebrew sentence and reply in kind.
Prerequisite: Ability to understand and string a basic sentence together in Hebrew. Familiarity with the 7 Verb constructs called binyanim. Vocabulary of 500+ Hebrew words.
Location: East Melbourne Synagogue, 494-500 Albert St, East Melbourne Start Date: Starts on Sunday 16 February 2025 and continues for 5 Sundays Schedule: Intermediate at 4pm. Advanced at 5pm. Cost: $90 for the entire course
