Lunch and Learn – Shiur Good old fashioned, interactive, lunch time Shiur with the rabbi discussing fundamental Jewish themes based on the Parshah of the week, using traditional texts – Chumash, Mefarshim, Talmud, modern day commentaries
Midday Minyan
During the winter months (non daylight saving times) the synagogue holds a midday minyan. Monday to Thursday.
Shabbat Call Ups
Should you wish to mark a special occasion in your family, honour a deceased or ailing family member, there is no greater mitzvah than being called up to the Torah on a Sabbath morning or a Yom Tov service. SUKKAH
The Melbourne City Synagogue's Sukkah is open to the public each day of Sukkot. During Chol Hamoed, city workers are invited to lunch in the Sukkah.
PURIM
The annual Purim party for families is an event attracting both local and overseas guests.
PESACH COMMUNAL SEDER
Local students, families and visitors are invited to join in a beautiful fully-catered Seder on Pesach night
CHANUKAH
Annual Chanukah Barbecue in Parliament Gardens with the public lighting of the Menorah.
KIDDUSHIM
A Kiddush is held each Saturday at the conclusion of the Shabbat service, with food, drink, and the Rebbitzens hot cholent during the winter months. Members of the congregation also provide Kiddushim to mark special occasions..
TOURS
The Synagogue continues to be of religious and historical interest to the general community and to interstate and international visitors. The Shule is a historic building, classified by the National Trust, and is the oldest synagogue still regularly operating in Melbourne. Tourists are welcome to call in to see the Shule during office hours, and to participate in Shabbat and Yom Tov services. To arrange a tour of the Shule, contact the secretary by phone or email
Yizkor ñ Yahrzeit
Congregants who wish to commemorate the lives of members of their families who have passed away, may do so through arranging that a yahrzeit be held or by adding their names to the memorial boards in the lobby of the Synagogue. Application to the Secretary, should be made at the Synagogue by phone or or email.
