We wish you a year of much personal fulfillment and success both in spiritual as well as physical matters this coming year.

Here at East Melbourne things are looking particularly upbeat. In the past few months East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation has seen a continued expansion in its activities.

With regular weddings, now some bar mitzvahs and even the occasional bris, East Melbourne Shul is starting to become a venue of choice for people wanting a special and intimate atmosphere for their simchahs and events.  We are also finding an increase in tours, school groups, religious groups and functions in the Victor Smorgon Community Hall.

A recent highlight was the Melbourne Open House event on Sunday the 25th of July, which saw in excess of 1000 people come through the shul to learn more about Judaism and the iconic shul. EMHC’s involvement was featured in The Age. (24/7) The above picture of our new office manager, Ruth Leonards, is taken from that article. Left and below are pictures of Rabbi Gutnick and Dennis Martin engaging the crowds.

An upcoming highlight will be the bar mitzvah of Jordan Davis on Parshat Noach. This will be a historic occasion celebrating four generations of bar mitzvahs from the one family at East Melbourne Shul. We have also developed our plans for the Torah dedication celebrating 150 years of continual Torah services at East Melbourne Synagogue.

We look forward to a wonderful year ahead and hope that this year delivers many blessings for our entire congregation and indeed all Klall Yisrael. May it be a year of peace in the world at large, in our homeland Israel and in each of our individual lives.

Yours sincerely,

Danny Segal

President
